Clinical Psychologist - Century City, Northern Suburbs, Cape Town
BA. Psych (UJ), BA. Hons. Psych (NWU), MA. Clin. Psych. (Rhodes)
I am a registered Clinical Psychologist in private practice where I work with a variety of patients including children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. I specialise in the treatment of depression, anxiety, characterological difficulties, psychological trauma (sustained in adult-or-childhood), bereavement and loss as well as existential concerns (including a sense of purposelessness, meaninglessness, loneliness and fear of death).
I practice within a Psychodynamic framework in which I make use of Dream Analysis and Guided Imagery.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy emphasises exploration of those aspects of the self that are not fully known, especially as they are manifested and potentially influenced within the therapeutic relationship in an attempt to address core psychological issues in order to bring about desired long-term change and symptom alleviation.
I believe that psychological symptoms are not meaningless in nature and that one can only fully help a patient heal if one works together with the patient in a collaborative manner to uncover and understand the idiosyncratic meaning of his/her suffering.
